The Board

The Mt Arthur Centre is run by a board of nine people elected from the general membership for a two year term. The current board comprises:

Nairn Walker - President
Director of Social Solutions ‘educating for a positive future’, Nairn is committed to the development and training of community and school-based personnel in support, intervention and development programs that promote and enhance mental, social, spiritual and emotional health, resiliency and well being. She is also really excited about watching the Mt Arthur Centre fulfill its mission of a place to grow, not only for the people that visit and work with the Centre and it’s activities, but of the facility and the organisation itself.

Sue Wilson - Secretary
A Founding parent of the Mt Arthur Family School, Sue has maintained a continuous interest in the Centre since 1981. Sue is a passionate educator and is currently the principal of Bicheno Primary School. She was a member of the founding Board of the Mt Arthur Centre and loves watching the evolution of this remarkable concept.

Kerry Clough - Treasurer
With a background in small business and a Bachelor of Commerce, Kerry became involved with the Centre through the engaeus project as her property borders the Mt Arthur Centre. Kerry is a single mother with four children and is interested in Bushcare, regeneration and riparian environments. As treasurer and a board member Kerry has the goal of making the Centre financially viable for the long run.

Andrew Boote - Public Officer
Andy Boote grew up in the Lilydale area. He currently works at Launceston Tafe, and has been involved in training, human resources, project management and leadership roles. He is committed to lifelong learing and has a strong interest in community development


Groups Using the Centre

Student Participation
The Centre provides opportunities for students to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and be educated at the same time. Groups from the TAFE special education group, Trevallyn Primary, Lilydale District School, Waverley and Rocherlea Primary have all participated in activities at the Centre.

Environmental Projects
Groups include Launceston Environment Centre, Tamar Region Natural Resource Management, the Engaeus Project, the Tamar Valley Weed Strategy, Kerry Clough and Family, Greencorps and Conservation Volunteers.

Conferences
Michael Bernard (Program Achieve); Cheryl Watkins, (Student Assistance Support Group Facilitator Training); Nairn Walker (Program Achieve & Facilitator Training Program); Ruby Payne (Generational Poverty and Language); Professional Development Lilydale District School; Ellen Allan (Natural Therapist); Cornelia Elbrecht (Art Therapist); Tony Kelly (Community Building); St. Lukes (Strength to Strength).

Activities
Tasmanian Regional Arts - Native Flora Painting, Basket Weaving Workshop, Mud Dyeing workshop screen printing workshop; Debbie Wearne, ‘friendship day’ (quilting/sewing); Mock Wedding; Monthly working bees; Landcare Meetings (Landcare is based at the Centre); Meditation Group weekly; Board Meetings, school excursions; Straw Bale Building Project.
