The future of Mt Arthur Centre is very exciting, and living right now in the field of all possibilities!
Our Mission Statement, A place to grow, has been embraced by a very wide and eclectic group of people and organisations because of the all-encompassing nature of the Centre, and we believe this is one of the Centre’s strengths.
Our vision of the Mt Arthur Centre in the future is one of a very fluid, dynamic, supportive and diverse community that meets the personal, social, spiritual, environmental and community needs of people in many different ways… much like it does now, only on a much bigger scale.
To do this, we have some definite plans that include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Community Vegie and Herb Garden - To be developed and tended by those that care and have an interest in sharing or developing their skills in horticulture and feeding the community.
- Accommodation - To be built on the other side of the creek to the main Centre, for the purposes of training and retreats. The initial proposal is 3 units of rustic and cosy accommodation that house 16 people each; 8 beds each side of an ablutions block. These can then house family units, people visiting the Centre for workshops and seminars, or people wanting a retreat from their normal schedule.
- Artist in Residence Accommodation, with attached Gallery. - The purpose of this facility is to host artisans from other areas so they can share their expertise with the community in the form of workshops and exhibitions. The Artist in Residence will have the use of a small and private purpose-built living space, and a public workshop and gallery area in which to demonstrate, teach and display their craft. The gallery area will be large enough to exhibit the work of local artists from the region.
- Another ‘Healing Space’ Building… and Environmentally Sustainable Buildings - With the imminent completion of ‘The Symbol Room’, a magnificent strawbale structure built by community volunteers in conjunction with the School of Architecture (Uni of Tas), the Centre is excited about undertaking another sustainable construction project. The purpose of this is three-fold:
- To provide a community-building and learning project to develop and enhance people’s skill-base and social network,
- To provide safe, nurturing spaces for practitioners to work with people in a range of modalities including massage, reiki, symbol work, art therapy and kinesiology, and
- to showcase sustainable technologies such as straw-bale, rammed earth, and daub constructions to the Tasmanian community.
- Your involvement as a Member! - Members of the Mt Arthur Centre live right across Tasmania and in nearly every state of Australia. We even have a few members further a-field in other nations, and we would love to have you be a part of our growing family of committed people working together to make the world a better place.
There are many other projects on the boil at Mt Arthur of all proportions, focus and dimension, all of which contribute to the Centre’s dynamic nature and that support the Centre to offer all that it does to the community.
We would love you to be a part of all that is the Mt Arthur Centre… please call in for a cuppa or sign up for one of the many workshops on offer that you might find to be of interest.
